SOUND ANALYSIS
Woman In Black
Woman In Black
The music used in the opening title sequence of The Woman In Black (2012) is so simple, that it almost makes the sequence even more scary. As we aware that this is a horror film we are anticipating something scary to happen, but this music creates a relaxing mood therefore making it shocking to the audience when the other sounds we hear are the smashing pf dolls when the girls walk over them when walking to the window. As we are led to understand that the children are playing a house, this supports Carol Clovers theory of 'bad things happening in safe places'. As the music used in this opening title sequence is also similar to a nursery rhyme, it reaffirms the thought that something bad is going to happen to these young children, therefore making it more creepy as typically, it isn't children that die in horror films. As the sound used in The Ring (2002) is mainly dialogue it make the opening sequence seem more like reality therefore making the audience believe it more.
