LIGHTING
Scenery:
We researched different open title sequences to look at the different lighting used in order to create a scary atmosphere. For example, Nightmare On Elm Street uses dark shadowing in order to make it scary. However the bright light is on the childhood objects to highlight the innocence of the children within the film. The Woman In Black is also another example of which bright lighting is used to create a sense of innocence in the opening title sequence when the young children are having a tea party. By using this bright lighting, it doesn't make the audience scared or on edge, it fills us with a sense of security as children are involved, and therefore a sense of sympathy when the children jump out of the window. Character:
Different lighting is used on specific characters to indicate their role within the film. For example:
The Killer
The darkest lighting is generally used on the killer in a horror film to suggest the mystery and problems within the killers personality. By having dark lighting on the killing it makes the audience uncertain of the killer, therefore portraying the killer as an even more scary character as we dont know much about them, being unable to properly see them. The Victim
In contrast to the killer, bright lighting is normally shown on the victims face to show the fear, and innocence, of their character. By using brighter lighting on the victim, it creates the significant difference between the killer and victim, making the audience able to relate with the victim. (AL)

The lighting that we use in our opening sequence will be mainly low key lighting to add an effect of danger and uncertainty of what is going to happen in the opening title sequence, we like the lighting used in The Last Exorcism 2 as the opening shot is of a house and is low key lighting and we want one of our shots to be of a safe place like a house and using low key lighting makes the effect even more scarier. We will also use brighter lighting within the house, and darker lighting on the killer as it creates the contrast between good and evil. (IP)
