How does your sequence use/develop/challenge form and convention of real media products?
When researching different opening title sequences, we decided that we really liked the variety of camera shots used in The Nightmare on Elm Street remake (2010). We also really liked the dark and mysterious lighting as we thought that dark lighting, created the intended scary atmosphere. By filming a non linear opening title sequence using only shots, not a storyline we thought that it created a mysterious atmosphere and made the film more intriguing. We wanted to do non linear in order to be able interest our audience and made it more original.

We also decided that portraying our killer as a Yuri, taking inspiration from The Ring (2002), it would be an original and different concept to include in our horror opening title sequence. We thought that using a Yuri as the killer was an interesting way to create a horror film which is why we really liked the The Ring (2002).
We took inspiration from the lighting from Nightmare on Elm Street (2010). By using this dark lighting, it makes our opening title sequence creepy as the objects and people, are sometime uneasy to see, making it more tense as the audience is put on edge.
As we chose to do the sub genre of paranormal, taking inspiration from Insidious 2 (2013) we wanted to portray the idea of 'unknown'. This is why we mirrored the shot of an object mysteriously entering the room, or in our case Izzie, as it seems to be unclear what is causing the horror within these opening title sequences therefore portraying the idea of something supernatural being the cause of evil.
As we wanted the idea of a 'Yuri' to be convincingly portrayed, we decided to identically dress Izzie in the same clothes as the Yuri killer in the The Ring (2002).
After audience feedback when showing our first attempt of our opening title sequence, it was decided that it needed another running storyline throughout in order to make our sequence more interesting. This is why we decided to represent the issue of self harm (forced by the killer) as we thought it would be an interesting twist within our horror title sequence.
We recognised that Insidious 2 (2013) also incorporated the idea of forced self harm which we thought added a really capturing aspect to the film which therefore pushed us further to believe that self harm would be a good way to create an even more creepy atmosphere.
